I don't think you can toggle the view in the way you could on the
notetakers, Graham. If, with the speech on to help you, you do s-chord
followed by g, you get a message saying to toggle grade 2 go to the save
as menu item. I'm almost certain there isn't a straight toggle and it
all depends on how files are created, translated and saved. Neither am
I aware of a Braille toggle equivalent to the Mute on/off in settings.

Hi Ian!

Thanks for this but its how to change the grade of braille output from
the
display not within a document and am already familiar with FS edit and
the
fact that it asks whether you want to use grade 2 Braille when starting
a
new doc. Also this is the built in display on a Pacmate BX 400 20 and
not
the separate one! Cheers!

Graham

Graham, coming to the second part of your question first, it's a bit
more complicated than toggling. Basically the Braille editor on the PM
is the application called FSEdit. This is an add-on to the standard
pocket PC suite. When you want to create a Braille file, you have to do
it in FSEdit if you want a grade 2 option. When you open the file with
sh-chord n you're asked whether you want to make it a grade 2 file. Say
yes if you do and no if you don't. The best way of reading grade 2
files from other apps in grade 2 is to open them in FSEdit. To do this
you have to make FSEdit the default reader for files in all other apps.
This is done under the options tabs but I can't fully remember the
steps. However, once you've set it it stays set. Finally, there is a
grade 2 translator which you can use in other apps such as Pocket Word.
Having created your file, do a t-chord.

As for your other question, I think if the display is connected it's on.
The only way to turn it off is to *take* it off.

I'm afraid that one of the let-downs for me with the PM is that it
wasn't primarily designed for use with Braille and so, if like me, you
don't use it with speech, a lot of the Braille functionality is
counter-intuitive and a lot more hassle than earlier notetakers.

Sorry for the length of this, but it's not that straightforward.

Cheers now.

Ian

Hi all!

Please can someone tell me how to turn the Braille display on and off on
a Pacmate BX and also how do you change between grade 1 and 2 Braille?
Cheers!

Graham
