Graham, coming to the second part of your question first, it's a bit more complicated than toggling. Basically the Braille editor on the PM is the application called FSEdit. This is an add-on to the standard pocket PC suite. When you want to create a Braille file, you have to do it in FSEdit if you want a grade 2 option. When you open the file with sh-chord n you're asked whether you want to make it a grade 2 file. Say yes if you do and no if you don't. The best way of reading grade 2 files from other apps in grade 2 is to open them in FSEdit. To do this you have to make FSEdit the default reader for files in all other apps. This is done under the options tabs but I can't fully remember the steps. However, once you've set it it stays set. Finally, there is a grade 2 translator which you can use in other apps such as Pocket Word. Having created your file, do a t-chord. As for your other question, I think if the display is connected it's on. The only way to turn it off is to *take* it off. I'm afraid that one of the let-downs for me with the PM is that it wasn't primarily designed for use with Braille and so, if like me, you don't use it with speech, a lot of the Braille functionality is counter-intuitive and a lot more hassle than earlier notetakers. Sorry for the length of this, but it's not that straightforward. Cheers now.
