Hi Graham,
Audrey
Audrey
but having specially created sites adds unnecessary work for site maintainers. It is altimately our responsibility to know the screenreader to ensure that we only say things are inaccessible when they are not accessible. this involves getting tips from others often.
The only real reason I can see for having an alternative site is for use on
mobile phones where the ability of the browser is limited. If of course the
"accessible" site is just as functional as the "main stream" site then why
have 2 sites?
The most difficult part of the tesco main site I can find is the table for
booking the delivery slot. You need an idea of tables to be able to use it.
but is there a better way that would work for all?
With so much of the Tesco site being navigable easily by a modern screenreader, Tesco really need to be asking these kind of questions I believe.
Cheers
Graham
In short what I am saying is that if the "accessible sit" does all that the
other mainstream site does, then why have the mainstream site?

Steve,
""The normal site is fine"."
I'm afraid I'm going to have to pull you up here.
It's very easy for us to jump in there because of our skills and say
somethings fine. For me and you maybe but others may be more comfortable
with accessibility features applyed to a site.
It's not always about training either. Some people may not have the ability
to use a fully loaded mainstream site and/or may just be more comfortable
with a less cluttered site.
Providing it's done well and runs in sync I dont' see why there shouldn't be
the option.
If it's not running in sync it's not the fault of the user but the maintainer.
I've tryed the new site out, just a quick explore after applying accessibility through the main site and think it's much nicer. It's also great now to see an info button and get info on storage, cooking, ingredients and even a full description of the thickness and toppings on a pizza.
As Re: who took part in the testing. I know we dont' have all the VI people
on here but we've about 300 or so. And it would be fantastic to hear from
at least one that was involved.
I'm sure the RNIB was consulted. But that even gets up my nose at times. Who placed them at the for front of what is and is not accessible?

Hi Audrey,
Oh no, here we go again.
Actually, I read that as being just two sites not three. I think you will
find that after 8 May, if you go to http://www.tesco.com/access, the new
version will apply. At Techshare last year, they talked about the access
site having exactly the same database and functionality, but a different
"skin", or interface if you will.
Personally, I don't care, as the normal site is fine, and the more they do
this, the more they will segregate us, rather than include us, in my view.
