Hi,

My favorite compression freebie is ICEOWS from

http://www.iceows.com/HomePageUS.html

It is totally free and opens/decompresses 25 different archive types including the latest .rar algorithm. It compresses in either .zip or its own proprietary .ice format.

ICEOWS is totally accessible as it integrates with the windows shell very similar to XP's own zip folder utility. ICEOWS's main advantage is that it is totally free and opens so many different archive types. I use it as my default compression utility even though I also have another commercial product on my system.

Winzip is shareware, you are meant to buy a registration as that is what the nag screen is for. There are however some freeware equivolents to Winzip available which are free to use.

Isn't Winzip, available from <http://www.jfwlite.com>www.jfwlite.com free to use so long as you
don't mind the opening advertisement window? Once you click the I agree
button you're off and running.
