Haven't bought mine yet, but you can get the R-09 from
http://www.edirol.co.uk. Probably not the cheapest, but when I bought my
R-01, or should I say, when Angie bought it for me for Christmas, they
delivered it on Christmas Eve, when Angie ordered it the day before. Pretty
impressive.
Incidentally, there is another kind of review of it from Gary O'Donahue,
which you can find at http://www.mosenexplosion.com. Gary has a bit of a
downer on it for the most part I think, but if you accept it for what it is,
an immediate, out of the box recorder with no mics or wires to connect, then
I think it sounds a great little machine, and I will definitely buy one in
the next few weeks.

It's only plugged into the PC if you choose to transfer files that way . . .. It's very portable - the size of a razor is given as an example. It's an "out and about", "record now and quickly" type machine!

Just to prove what a peasant I am can someone tell me the actual reason
for the Editol R--09 I've read the posts and looked on the web site but it
seems to be a recorder plugged into the PC. I can't see the reason for
that at all. I know I must be missing something and I know I'm not so into
audio as most of you are but I honestly can't see why I should pay three hundred quid to sit on my desk wondering why I've got it.

mentions the time-date feature as also the fidliness of the battery cover
which serves the dual purpose of, when partially opened, covering the
card
socket and the USB port.
Afraid its not really worth listening to all the review as the guy gets bogged down in trying out various microphones. First 30-40 minutes are the interesting bit.

Thank you for your information. Are you saying the R-09 has time and date? This was my beef about the R-01, it never had time and date, so all the files were created at the same time, 12:00 p.m. on January 1 2005, or something like that.

I am pleased to confirm that the claims made for ease of use from a VI perspective is quite true.
Got mine this morning and, with sighted help accessed the menus and done the relatively permanent settings such as time and date, recording format, sampling rate, etc. and a few more.
Quality of recording, using the in-built microphones is very good. Am using a Bose noise reduction headphone.
When opening the SD card compartment/battery compartment, be careful not
to
damage the unit. It is a double stage operation and the lid seems rather
flimsy.
