Ok, yes, fair points. I'm not defending BT Yahoo, only saying there's no need 
to dismiss them as an option just because their browser software is alien to 
screen readers. And Sandra, well in about 3 years now of BT Broadband, I've had 
only two failures which certainly lasted a few hours each time, so all in all, 
I felt that wasn't bad. 

We'll all have good and bad experiences no matter what product or service 
supplier we discuss I suppose.

I also noticed that Pipex were getting good reviews for one of the best new 
traders on the market, but at £33.50, they look a little heavily priced perhaps 
for the domestic customer?

The point that Dave was making was that with the BT Yahoo offering have to use 
special software to perform specific actions/extra services, which you pay in 
the base price.  The base price is slightly more expensive for the Yahoo 
offering than other providers.  Whereas, with providers such as Plusnet, 
everything is done through a fairly straightforward website, so if you want a 
service enabled, you do it via the web, not the software.

I would rather use a provider like Plusnet for this reason any day than BT.  
Remember also the cheaper BT Broadband, has no provisioning for 
sending/receiving email, you have to go elsewhere, which will probably most 
likely be extra cost.

What we have to remember here, and be clear on, is your broadband connection, 
or ADSL will likely be BT at your local telephone exchange, then, you have your 
Internet Service Provider, ISP, who may be btopenworld, Plus net, or whoever. 
BT Openworld or whatever ISP you choose, are a separate entity from your BT 
telephone line supplier.

There's no dial up, it's instant connection, so I have to disagree with the 
point Dave makes on that. At the end of the day, all you want is a dependable 
and secure connection, and BT certainly have been in that league for many years.

Although I'm critical of BT Yahoo and it's non accessibility, I can basically 
do without it with comfort. I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, & AVG on my 2 main 
machines at home on a wireless network who's router has a sophisticated 
firewall, and then, once I convert both pc's to XP when I can afford it, then 
there's another good firewall there as a backup.

Don't dismiss BT Yahoo just yet, they at least are reliable, and I noticed on 
that broadband checker site I mentioned, that there are 2 BT Broadband packages 
available, one at £24.99, simply called btbroadddband, and BT Yahoo broadband 
at £26.99, so it might be worth digging deeper into the former one for more 
info.

As cable isn't available in my area, I can't offer any input there, sorry.

You need a provider who uses the web to accomplish it's checks and controls. 
BT Yahoo use inaccessible software for lots of things.  You can get online, 
but you can't use their browser, family filtering or anything else.  You 
have to completely bypass their dialler as well on dial up, so probably 
broadband too.

www.plus.net is pretty good if you ask me!

I'm finally going to make the step into broadband, and am wondering if anyone 
recommends any sites for comparing broadband providers or for info on it?  
Also, is there anything I need to be aware of in terms of accesisibility - I 
seem to remember something about accessibility or some other kind of problems
