Hi Janet,
But you can use the Echo as a Bluetooth speaker by pairing it with your
Smartphone.

Hi Janet.
You cannot read Kindle books on the echo, only books purchased from Audible
can be played at the moment. As for the buttons on the speaker, with the
speaker facing you with the power outlet socket on the rear of the device, the
button on the top left hand side is the mute button, this button has a concave
surface with a symbol in the middle and the button on the right hand side is
the action button. This button has a raised dot in its centre and is used to
wake the device if you are unable to get the attention of the device using the
wake word, typically when the device is playing music at high volume.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Janet.
You don’t need sighted assistance to set up the echo, however you do need to
be familiar with iOS or Android operating systems or have someone willing to
set up the Echo for you if you are not. The Alexa app is definitely usable and
the instructions provided by both app and speaker are clear and easy to follow.
All the best, Ibrahim.

this may be a stupid question but is there a guide as to how to set the echo
up in the first place and how to connect it with your iPhone or is it better to
have sighted assistance. Janet

Hi Alison.
Yes, most of the skills are free, however some require you to have
functionality from websites in order to work. For instance, if you want to use
JustEat to order your favourite takeaway, you obviously have to have a JustEat
account and to have placed an order before to enable this functionality. There
are other skills which enable you to order cabs, check airfare prices and
flight status etc. etc. as well as the fun and novelty ones as previously
mentioned.
All the best, Ibrahim.
