i'll put a copy of a reply i sent to some one else regarding this below.
the only thing to add is that when you find what you want to instll double tap
on it and it's page will come up and there will be a button to activate it on
your echo and on this same page it will tell you what you can say to echo to
use it.

hi paul,
in the Alexa app if you keep tapping on the icon at the top you will
finish up on the home tab.
on this screen you have other tabs to switch to.
they are:
now playing
music and books
shopping and to do lists
timers and alarms
skills
smart home
things to try
settings
and
help and feedback
amazon call there scripts skills so if you tap on the skill tab you will
then get a screen that shows you some of the popular ones near the top
followed by catagories that you can tap on to get a list of that
catagory.
the only thing i would say is that when i was in these lists they were a
bit temperamental with voiceover so when i tried to navigate down the
list by flicking it didn't want to go to the end of the list.
so what i did was once in the list i kept swiping up with 3 fingers
until i got to the bottom and even that kept changing as one minute it
might say page 4 of seven and then when you swiped again it might say 5
of eleven so i just kept swiping until it donged to indicate i couldn't
go any further and then i flicked left to work my way up the list from
the bottom and i was able to read every skill in the list.
the app does seem to have some problems with voiceover as most of the
time you can just double tap on things to activate them but in some
places they will only activate if you double tap and hold.
one of these places are in the timer and alarm screen where you can
select a timer or alarm to then delete it but double tapping doesn't
tick it it only ticks them when you double tap and hold.
another thing that can be a bit confusing is that if you change the
alarm sounds it only uses the new sound for any alarms that you create
after making the change any you made before the change will still use
the old alarm sound so if you did what i did and tried setting different
alarms after changes to several sounds you end up with alarms going off
each with a different sound.
