I think you are going to write the "fastest car" function in PHP. However, since it isn't written, I don't mind doing that since I know how to write it and how I'm going to use it. Really, only one of us need to call it to update a "I'm the fastest car" variable. As for the other stuff, I was thinking that we'd use C, since it seems like a good socket-type language. I also remember using C in 222 to call other programs; so, it might be possible to call mysql using command-line type calls within C. I'm sorry if that sounded stupid... I don't know if any of that was accurate.

I'll agree with the "let's get this working" idea.

Also, as an extension of the "busy" thing, I meant to say that I won't be able to help at 1:30. I need to be studying... I just wanted to get that out there so you can do your job(s)

That's fine on the late submission, I won't be compiling until tomorrow

after talking with the network group, as far as my part goes we'll be
grabbing their header files for function calls, so the stub code for that
part (for me) will simply be calling the function and seeing if I get an
error flag that they have built in.

But the second part, writing the new data into the database, I have
questions on -- what exactly am I writing this code "in?" As in, is this C
code, Java, VB, what? Basically what I'm assuming I'll do is call their
function which will return a string of data, which I'll break up into it's
parts as defined by the camera group and then write the pieces out to the
database. Am I writing C code here, like "int main()" kind of stuff, or how
is this integrating with the website? I think I need to talk to chris to
see how I actually "see" the database (how I write to it), as I don't fully
know that.

Chris also mentioned expandability, about developing an interface for adding additional cameras and such. to that I would say -- our system specs don't
reflect that functionality, and as such we'll do it if time allows for
proper development and implementation. Our foremost priority on this
project is to complete our desired functionality as it is specifically
stated. I definitely see your point, for expandability and how to develop a
classy-interface, but I'm hesitant to say "yea let's add this on" when I
feel that we still have a considerable road ahead of us as it stands. If
we're sitting around with our hands in our pockets a month from now, sure.
But for now, let's focus on what needs to get done, which is a sizeable
amount.

I think that I'm supposed to write the fastest car function -- again, let me know what I'm writing in and how to access the database, and we'll get that up as well. how are we recognizing what the "current" cars are? it seems to me that we can't simply say "what are the latest cars in the database," as
that leads to a problem if a camera is currently seeing no cars at all
(unless we write in a blank?). thoughts?

Because of my speech this morning, and upcoming test in CompSci at 2:30, I have not started writing my paper (although, I do have a few sources). I don't believe that I can, realistically, finish my paper for 453 and address
all of my changes to the API before midnight.

Logen, is it okay if I send this to you later tonight (like 1-2?). Or... can I update the TMC portion of the API doc to reflect this and send that?

Just so you know, I do have some ideas for how I will update my portion of
the API:

- Get rid of the code that handles styling on the page
- Remove code from my function and add descriptive text explaining the
purpose of each function
- Add additional functions developed for the api
- "Develop" a "function" that handles: setting a "track this car" variable
to a particular car ID.

Actually, I think a few people will need to use that "track this car"
variable.

Someone will need to write code that determines the closest PTZ to a fixed
camera.

Someone will need to use that function to determine which PTZ to switch the
main PTZ feed to (I think that's me). I'll also need to write code that
disables automatically doing this in manual mode.

Has someone already written a "fastest car" function? I'm sure, if my code detects automatic mode, that it will need to call this function every second
or so to switch the main cam.

Yep,
Chris
