first, I'd consider moving some inbox messages from their to more
distinguishing folders into the local folders in OE.

Now if I recall correctly, OE 5 used the .mbx filing system whereas later
versions changed to .dbx

The change was made seamlessly if the files were still kept in OE.

If you move all the .mbx files from OE onto external media, and then at
somepoint change to XP or do an upgrade of IE, when you try to open your old
messages in OE, they may not be able to be opened. This I'm not positive
about and someone on the list may know differently. It is just something to
consider.

If you want to make a copy of the OE messages and keep the same messages
within your current HDD then there should not be a problem except doing
another copy in the future.

You can do a find for .mbx and if they are already .dbx, then search for
that. Go to the appropriate folder and copy from there.

You could also change the messages to text files and copy those.

There are also some OE BU programs available.
