My experience in process areas is that there is so much ambient noise (some
areas here require hearing protection) that you need LOUD horns. One of our
project engineers installed 24 VDC outside horns in one area because there
were points available on the FBM with very poor results as to being able to
hear the alarm if not in close proximity to the horn. Hence my preference
for 120 VAC. We also have had to install sound cards and speakers and use
the wave files on the AW70's for some of our hard of hearing operators in
the control rooms.

I don't know CrouseHinds but I think a 120VAC will be VERY loud for a short
time in Europe where we have a lot of 230VAC.
But at least you will have an idea something is wrong.

The list is a bit quiet isn't it?

Get out your CrouseHinds catalog and pick out the 120 VAC horn that meets
your electrical classification. Then build some PLB logic to drive it. In
some areas we use timers in the logic to make 2 different alarm patterns to
differntiate alarm criticality.

I am contemplating buying a couple of external horns to use for alarming =
on a WP51D and am wondering what brand/style of horn you folks would =
recommend. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
