Mini update: case partner, keyboard mould pics, Lemmings, Kickstarter
anniversary and… date!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have good news at last: the Spectrum Next case mould
is already in production as you read this, in the safe hands of a new
plastics partner that not only is awesome to work with, but promised a much
faster timeline than we expected.
In just a week we exchanged specs, got our CAD files approved, paid invoices
and production has started, with a timeline of 35 straight days to have it
done.
With the new timeline for the case, we can now line things up and put forward
the completion date of mid July. We’ll have our Nexts this Summer!
We expect to get the first mould pics this week, and will share them as soon
as they become available. In the meantime, on the subject of moulds…
Keyboard moulds
As you may recall, we started production of the keyboard a few weeks back in
early April. The first moulds for the keys are now done, and soon we’ll have
the first prototype to adjust and then sign off for mass production.
This week Rick and Phil spent time guiding the keyboard partner on the right
finish for the keys, plus the engineers started producing the matrix membrane
that makes it work, requiring three layers (unlike the original Speccy, with
just two -- but just like the Speccy Plus and 128).
It’s likely we’ll see the keyboard approval build in the flesh very soon, and
share the pictures we shall!

Kickstarter anniversary
Tomorrow, 23rd of April, it’s the first anniversary of the Spectrum Next
Kickstarter campaign going live. It’s fair to say it has been a hell of a
rollercoaster for all of us, team and backers alike, in a very literal sense:
plenty of scares, but fun as hell.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you, our backer, and all the
people who have been working with so much heart to make the ZX Spectrum Next
a success full of games, apps, fond memories and the best retro community
I’ve ever have the pleasure to be a part of.
Upwards and onwards, Spectrum Next!!!
