Dear Barry,
With political fever gripping both Pakistan and the United States,
we want to update you on our activities and provide opportunities
for you to continue making a difference in development initiatives
across Pakistan.
Our team of global volunteers is currently evaluating two projects;
a job-training center in Charsaddah, and procuring medical
equipment for a Karachi hospital. Meanwhile, we are continuing to
make good progress on our previous projects, such as Arshad Public
School. While looking for new projects, we are also focusing on
increasing our ability to support new projects by having a renewed
focus on fundraising.
We rely on you to be our eyes and ears; so if you know of worthy
projects or non-profits or volunteers looking to make a difference
please tell them about ADP. Also, we have a number of volunteering
opportunities for you in this edition. If you don't find any that
you like, do let us know of your interest and we will make a note
of getting back to you when something comes up.

New York Fund Raising Chapter Launched
Lately we have stepped up our drive to locate and fund more & more
initiatives. Naturally, this calls for securing new avenues of fund
raising. Keeping in view the remarkable track record and the trust
we have earned, we felt that it is time for ADP to reach out to
donors and project the success of its volunteer-driven model.
In January 2008, ADP launched a team of carefully selected
volunteers to engage in raising funds and expanding our outreach on
the East Coast. The team has already met up once and is busy
figuring out ways to widen our donor base. If you would like to get
in touch with the team or would like to help, please contact us at

We also plan to launch a similar fundraising initiative in the San
Francisco Bay Area soon . If you are interested in joining the Bay
Area fundraising team or leading a similar team in your area let
Sundas Hashmi know (sundas.hashmi@xxxxxxxxx). Our fundraising teams
will be supported by a marketing team. Stay tuned for more!
Case-Study: NEEDS Project Evaluation
While aiming to provide our global network of volunteers with a
variety of opportunities, we also aim to bring the collective
relevant experience of our volunteers to project evaluations. Most
recently, the project team for the Youth Facilitation Center
project by Network for Economic and Educational Development
Services constituted the first practical manifestation of our
volunteers from around the globe working on one project evaluation.
The team included two volunteers from the US, one from Lahore and
one from Karachi (the project itself is located in Charsadda!) all
of whom are passionate about using their skills to create positive
social change. The diligence phase is almost complete and will be
followed by a final project vote to determine ADP's support for the

New Volunteer Opportunities
Pakistani Volunteering Portal
Pakistan has thousands of resource-constrained non-profits and a
large number of volunteers unable to find meaningful opportunities
to do community service. We are currently looking to recruit a
leadership team to develop the business plan for an online service
which helps volunteers find local volunteering opportunities with
non-profits across Pakistan.
Eye Hospital in Mansehra
We are currently evaluating a proposal for an eye hospital in
Mansehra and need volunteers to conduct site visits for solid
feedback we can count on. If you happen to be in the Abbotabad
region and are willing to volunteer for a day, let us know!
ADP Marketing Team
Express your creative talents by being on our marketing team.
Anyone interested in writing articles, designing brochures/
pamphlets or making videos or documentaries on ADP or the projects
we have done in the past is welcome to sign-up!
ADP Project Solicitor
Help ADP find projects and organizations that you believe deserve
funding.

Other News
APS First Phase The foundation laying for Arshad Public School in
Muslandy village is now complete! We have been fortunate to have
volunteers visiting the site and keeping us informed so far. Let us
know if you would like to conduct a site visit in future and help
us monitor the project progress effectively.
Nilore School Science Lab
We are extremely glad that the ADP-funded science lab at Nilore
school is delivering on its promise. The lab is currently used for
different classes in biology, physics and chemistry. However, the
school is still looking for a full-time science teacher. If you
would like to help with the search, please contact Siddique Malik

Current Projects We are currently in the process of reviewing a
number of proposals including equipment purchases for a mental
hospital and funding a women employment program. You can jump right

ADP Volunteer Manager In November, Khurram Owais joined ADP as its
new Volunteer Manager. Khurram is a medical student at Aga Khan
University, Karachi. With him on board, we hope to improve upon the
volunteering opportunities we make available to you as well as
broaden our scope in terms of funding newer projects.
