I decided to install Fedora on the spare machine that I use for general
'dangerous' testing. It was the first time I actually saw Gnome 3. I was
utterly appalled! How can anyone with two functioning brain cells actually do
anything on it? It fights you every step of the way.
The combination of that, GDM and SystemD also made it an epic battle trying to
get rid of it and install something sane like XFCE. Overall it took me the best
part of a day to get to a state where I could compile Yoshimi.
Well, the good news is that I was able to compile it with the current Exherbo
patch and everything seemed to be placed in sensible locations. For LV2, it
first looks for the LV2_PATH environment variable, and if that isn't there it
makes an educated guess. Also, you do have the option (at CCmake setup time) of
overriding this and deciding where you want LV2 to go.
The bad news is that being a long-term debian user I don't really know how
fedora lays things out, so performance was rather poor, and none of Ardour,
Muse, Qtractor was able to find any LV2 plugins, so clearly I've got something
wrong. However, having established that we have a workable multi-distro install
system, I'm not going to waste any more time on it. There's far too much that
needs doing already :(
This patch will go into the next commit.
