Would Audacity recording help? Or does this relate to keeping the settings only?

That's something we haven't found a good answer to. The fact of loading the
default state has genuinely changed the state from the normal startup one.
Do we assume that the user wants *all* settings to be saved, only those
changed
later, none of the above? It can get quite complicated.
