Dear YESSers
Greetings!
It is a pleasure to inform you that we (I, and Sakshi Rana) are jointly
hosting a YESS Session: ‘Engaging early career researchers to strengthen
and communicate the science of ecosystem services in Asia’ in the upcoming
ESP-Asia Conference to be held in the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun
(India) during October 9-13 2018. Besides, to make YESS more visible, we
will also be actively participating in another conference session: the
keynote lecture by Mr. Pavan Sukhdev. An economist by training, Mr. Pavan
is the leader of the TEEB study and now President of WWF International. In
the ESP-Asia conference, Mr. Pavan will talk about the overarching
conference theme ‘Communicating and engaging ecosystem services in Policy
and Practice’; however, his main message would be *“we need to change our
perverse economic compass”*. It would be interesting to see (ask) how he
links economic valuation with nature conservation objectives.
In this regard, as suggested by Dr. Dolf de Groot (who would like to see
YESS strongly involved), it would be great if we (the YESS community) can
prepare and send some questions in advance to Mr. Pavan Sukhdev that could
be asked during his lecture.
Hence, I would like to request you all to think of some questions and send
them to me (prianca.sarkar@xxxxxxxxx). It would be great if the questions
can be collected by next week; this would allow some time for Mr. Pavan
Sukhdev to prepare beforehand.
