Dear YESSers,
It's very nice to see that we have 3 new people interested in joining the
Executive Team!
I would like to also share with you my interest in continuing within the
Executive Team for the following year. My main motivation for this is to
support the new team with my experience in YESS so far and being able to
stay involved with the nice activities that this role entails for some more
time. I believe that with a larger team and accumulated knowledge from the
group we can further develop YESS quite nicely. Some developments are
already starting to take shape and I would like to continue advancing them.
Some info on myself:
I am a YESS member since 2013. I have been involved in several YESS
activities, the longest one now being the newsletter, while others include
joint writing of papers, organization of YESS sessions in ESP conferences
for the past several years, or tasks related with the Executive Team
(setting up new mailing list, developing new activities, ensuring that the
group keeps alive and kicking).
Apart from that I am a post-doc researcher at the Humboldt University
Berlin (working on urban green and blue infrastructure) and at the natural
history museum Berlin (working on essential biodiversity variables and
their role for polocy processes like IPBES or the SDG's).
Looking forward to the chance of working with the new team!

Dear YESS members,
my name is Arjan de Groot and I would like to nominate myself as a
potential candidate for the YESS Executive Team.
I have obtained a Master's degree in Climate Studies from the Wageningen
University in the Netherlands in 2015 and have worked at the project
"ValuES: Methods for integrating ecosystem services into practice, policy
and planning" at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit until the end of 2017. For the last few months I have also
been assisting the ESP in various activities, primarily in supporting the
regional chapter on Western and Central Europe incl. Russia.
Despite myself being a relatively new member of YESS, I believe that the
group has great potential to connect young researchers from around the
world and thereby opening doors for better communication and cooperation,
which I believe are the key areas that need strengthening if we want to
successfully protect our nature, ecosystems and biodiversity and prepare
for other challenges such as climate change or resource shortages. As a
member of the executive team I would hope to bring the YESS members closer
together and to foster an exchange of knowledge and opinions between us. I
know from experience that trying to establish yourself as a young
researcher or young professional is not an easy task, and I believe that we
all can share experiences and support each other in this early period of
our careers.
I will also be participating at the upcoming ESP conference in San
Sebastián in October and will be co-hosting a session on the regional
chapter together with input from Hans Keune and Simon Moolenaar on Monday.
I will of course also participate in other sessions and otherwise be an
eager listener and hope to meet many YESS members at the conference.
