The Environmental Management Laboratory (EML) is seeking a post-doc
interested in Ecosystem services to work in the project “Lithuanian
National Ecosystem Services Assessment and Mapping (LINESAM)”. The project
aim is to improve the understanding of nature-society interaction through
an Ecosystem Services based approach, identify national environmental and
socio-economic drivers of change and their effect on ES supply and demand,
support the development of planning and management strategies grounded on
socio-ecological principles of ecosystems and biodiversity. LINESAM aims to
create a common knowledge baseline on ecosystem services, accessible to
decision-makers, planners, academics and the public through the development
of a Geoportal, based on open source technologies that will support
storing, sharing and mapping of the results throughout the project lifetime.
EML requires that the potential candidates have a doctoral degree within
the past five years. Four years of funding are available for half time
(0.5).
*Duties and required skills*
The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Paulo Pereira
(Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania) and his team in the implementation
of the LINESAM-Geoportal. The candidate will be responsible for the
implementation, maintenance and customization of the Geoportal according to
project tasks and project timeline and will be tightly cooperating with the
project team on the national and case study level assessment and mapping of
ecosystem services in terrestrial, freshwater and marine biomes across
Lithuania. Additional tasks concern the support of the project team in
daily administrative tasks, the writing of project deliverables and the
organization of workshops and conferences. Excellent oral and written
skills in Lithuanian and English are required.
Knowledge and skills required by the candidate:
· PhD in Geography, Environmental Sciences or information technology
· Solid programming skills concerning web-based applications and
platforms for geospatial information systems (GIS) and for deploying
spatial data infrastructures (SDI), such as GeoNetwork-Opensource; GeoNode;
GeoServer or MapServer, including experience in web map server software and
web map viewers (e.g. openlayers)
· Solid background about ES assessment and mapping
· Knowledge in INSPIRE Directive and its most important aspects
· Good knowledge in R and Python programming language
· Strong background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and
experience in working with ArcGIS and QGIS
· Experience in treating remote sensing data is an advantage
· Work in a multicultural environment, where English is the main
language of communication
· Availability to travel abroad (e.g. conferences, workshops)
· Responsible for leading peer-review publications and participate in
project reports and other organizational tasks
