policy needs

Dear colleagues,

The Natural History Museum Berlin is (co)organizing a couple of conference
sessions that might be of interest to you or your networks:

- the workshop "From data to policy: supporting biodiversity policy needs
and the SDGs" at the Biodiversity_Next conference (
https://biodiversitynext.org/ ;<https://biodiversitynext.org/l>) in Leiden,
22-25 October

- a session on "Biodiversity monitoring and indicators: supporting
evidence-based policy in pursuit of a Biodiversity Strategy beyond 2020" at
the ALTER-Net & EKLIPSE conference: The EU Biodiversity Strategy Beyond
2020 (http://www.alter-net.info/events/alter-net-conf-2019) in Ghent, 17-19
June

Both sessions will generally address critical issues surrounding the
reporting needs of international biodiversity policy processes (like the
Convention on Biological Diversity, the associated Aichi Targets, IPBES,
the EU biodiversity strategy), as well as the SDGs. Those issues include
among others: how to go from monitoring data to policy-relevant indicators,
the role of essential biodiversity variables, or how to coordinate between
different monitoring and indicator initiatives.

*We are welcoming contributions for the two events. *

Deadline for abstracts to the Biodiversity_Next workshop is the 5th of
April. Workshop description:
https://biodiversitynext.org/list-of-symposia-and-workshops/ ;(search for
WP88).

Deadline for abstracts to the ALTER-Net conference session is the 31st of
March (with the possibility of having a short extension if you are
interested in our session). Session proposal submission is underway.

If you are interested in attending or presenting in any of these events
please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

We would also appreciate if you circulate this among your networks.

Best wishes,

André Mascarenhas
