Do you want to attend a major international event with your peers? Do you
want to seize an opportunity to learn from and share your thoughts with
leaders from the scientific community, civil society and governmental bodies
in the field of conservation? Do you want to know how you can make a
difference through your work?
Then you should consider applying to join the YESS delegation to the IUCN
World Conservation Congress, taking place in Marseille (France) from January
7th to January 15th 2021!
The Congress is where the world comes together to set priorities and drive
conservation and sustainable development action. It includes plenary
sessions, participatory workshops, capacity building sessions and countless
networking opportunities. You can learn more

The mission of the YESS delegation to IUCN WCC 2021 is two-fold:
- To carry the voice of young professionals in the field of biodiversity and
ecosystem services: how do we see our place in conservation and
sustainability actions, how are we able to contribute?
- To provide opportunities for young professionals to network and cooperate
with external organisations, such as international bodies, youth-led NGOs,
businesses...
As a YESS delegate, you will:
- Participate in online workshops to prepare for the Congress. Preparation
will also involve committing some time for “homework”, for instance to
prepare questions for the sessions you wish to attend or with which we have
partnerships (see below).
- Participate in sessions and engage as much as possible to share your
knowledge, opinion and challenges as a young professional.
- Collaborate with our partners to facilitate sessions. For now, there is one
collaboration planned: with our partner ONet on the organisation of [an IUCN
session on climate change-biodiversity
interlinkages](https://www.iucncongress2020.org/programme/official-programme/session-43202).
You’ll develop questions from the perspective of young professionals, in
order to enable an interactive dialogue between audience and experts. The
session will be featuring high-level experts from IPBES, IPCC and IUCN.
- Post about YESS involvement on social media (twitter, facebook, YESS blog,
...).
- Participate in a field trip to discover Marseille.
- Conduct networking activities to link with other organisations, with a
focus on IUCN and its affiliated young professional networks.
- Produce a paper or a report following up the delegation’s attendance and
addressing its outcomes.
- More ideas on what else we can do is most welcome!
YESS does NOT provide funding for attending the event. Delegates are expected
to cover all their costs. Therefore, we strongly urge applicants to seek
funding from their places of work or study. Nevertheless, we can offer
support in accessing funding sources to successful applicants from developing
countries.
