And Rebecca’s responses to my questions -
Thank you Monica for asking so many questions.
Because of the work being done around the bees its necessary to have them
moved. I just leave them to their own devises to get on with life and only
intervene when I see a definite problem (wasps, or a long time of draught or
such so they need feeding)
However I think I would love a beekeeper to look after them however would be
fine with just a friendly person being around them. By a year I mean probably
looking at this time next year.
I would need some strong men to move them as I dont think I could manage this
task (even with asking someone to help)

Hi Rebecca
I thought these messages were going to the whole group, but discover I sent
my earlier message privately by mistake. I’m forwarding to the group in case
anyone realises they could find a place for your bees for a few months to a
year. I’ll also ask around beekeeper colleagues in the next few days. We’ll
hope to find a place for you within the next month. plus people to help move
them when you return in October.
All best wishes
Monica

If its easier to find someone to re home my bees maybe I could move them for
a couple of months and then move them back to a new place that wouldn’t be
in the way.
I return in middle of October and would need to definitely make sure its
then done.
Thanks for your help

Hi Rebecca
I’ve been pondering who might be a happy host for your bees. They will need
to be moved several miles away: the old beekeeping adage says that bees
should always be moved less than 3 feet or more than 3 miles, otherwise
they will lose orientation. That puts us near Trellech on the borderline,
so it’s probably best to look further afield first. Can I ask a few more
questions?
Am I right in understanding you want them moved (you don’t want to move
them yourself) so you need a couple of strong people who know what they’re
doing? How soon do they have to be moved?
You say you would want them back within the year. Is that before Christmas
or before this time next year?
Do you just need a suitable safe place for them to be left alone to get on
with life? Or do you want a beekeeper to keep a knowledgeable eye on them?
If they’re away for a year, it might be useful to know whether you want a
beekeeper to make any interventions (for example feeding). I’m sorry I
can’t remember your beekeeping methodology (every beekeeper is a bit
different!) but it would be good to know if you expect more than reports on
their wellbeing.
Sorry to quiz you but I hope it will help us find the right place for your
bees. It will be hard to be without them even for a few months - and no
doubt your bees will miss your beautiful garden and land too. But I’m sure
your landscaping will result in an even more abundant place for you all.
Hope you’re keeping well.
Monica

Good morning,
I must do some landscaping in the back of the house and realise that the
bees need to be rehoused. I have three hives and would like them moved
and probably returned within the year.
They are very calm bees and make delicious honey.
Anyone got space?
Thanks for your help
