Dear All,
I am having printer issues ( fancy new wireless printer that prints from our
phones and ipad but not from the desk top ! )
I thought I would try to give an update on John ahead of the meeting this
evening.
I stress that this is what I know as of 2 conversations yesterday with those
close to Jan plus a mail she sent me yesterday evening.
So, you all know of the event that put John in hospital and that he is in ICU
in Southampton.
John was very heavily sedated and placed in a coma. He suffered swelling to
his brain that they reduced. Unfortunately he suffered another bleed on
Wednesday and was back in theatre and they have kept part of the skull away to
keep the pressure off. The pressure and the intensity of sedation were coming
down. But he got a chest infection from the ventilator ( not uncommon) and
needed to be chilled and it took until Friday for the brain pressure to reduce.
Over the weekend he has had his sedation much reduced in the hope of taking
him out of the coma but as of yesterday this had not happened and he had not
shown any sign of consciousness as of yesterday ( Sunday ) evening.
Of course Jan is seeing the various consultants and I understand she was to see
the brain trauma person today but I have no further news. They can only say
that his condition is critical and it is hard to offer opinions but that he is
likely to be in Southampton some weeks before any possible move to SDH.
As I and sure you will all agree, it is a total nightmare for Jan and the
whole family.
There is an excellent support network in place but I am sure all messages of
support are welcome.
There is also a move afoot to possibly organise some valley based events to
allow us all to show our support for John - more on this when it develops .
One thing they are very keen to shore up is their teaching business and they
are keen to find suitable teachers who can tutor at the 11+ level and if anyone
knows suitable teachers looking for work then please get in contact. Friends
are stepping in to help with running mock exams but it would be good to ensure
the business can continue smoothly into next year and ensure an income base for
Jan.
of course John can no longer act as our Treasurer. Robin has done a great job
in supplying the update on the Portfolio but sooner rather than later we
please need a new volunteer Treasurer - please do think about it because we
cannot function without a treasurer.
I hope this helps,
Peter C.
