Dear everyone,
At our meeting on Monday I suggested that some of us might like to work
together to produce something which would link the thoughts we have in our
Global discussions with the low level buying and selling that we do. I will
act as scribe and try to corral our ideas.
The first thing would be to establish a framework, which we can then fill in.
I offer a first draft framework below, but would be happy to add in things that
I’ve missed, or to delete the inappropriate.
Many club members will have neither the time nor the inclination to be involved
in this work, which is fine, but I will be circulating our developing ideas to
the whole freelist so that anyone can chip in at any time if they wish.
Please come back to me with any comments on the framework below, preferably by
Friday 25th September.
With best wishes
David
FRAMEWORK
GLOBAL FACTORS
This section sets out the factors we regularly discuss: Covid, Brexit etc and
also current trends such as on-line shopping, AI, clean energy etc.
REGIONAL ANALYSIS
This sections examines USA, UK, Europe, Asia Pacific etc to see where
investment is most likely to succeed given the Global situation.
SECTOR ANALYSIS
This section looks at the various sectors - Retail, Banks, Energy, industry,
Services etc to see where investment is most likely to succeed.
RISK
We then examine ways to classify & reduce risk within our portfolio. What
level of risk is appropriate in current circumstances?
THEORETICAL PORTFOLIO
Finally, we develop a theoretical portfolio based on our analysis above, which
would guide investment decisions for the next few months. It would probably
not be definitive in terms of which specific shares to buy, but would prompt
further research by teams of club members to narrow down the choice in a
particular area.
