Meeting Notes, THURSDAY, August 16, 2018
The Daily Grind, 5:30 PM
Brief Updates: (5 min. each)
Flyer
Passed around Kim’s design for comment. *Leelee *and *Kim *want to start
posting them places. Abigail offers to help with contacting Full Court
Press for printing.
Park(ing) Day
Sept 22, will do in front of Daily Grind, 7 AM - 5 PM, 2 parking spaces.
Can WSMAC help? Setup, tear down. Maybe we have brochures there, Walnut?
Other ideas: Library books? Involvement from local authors, poets? Music?
USM art students?
WSMAC should send out email about it, asking for volunteers to hang out,
set up, tear down. Abigail will notify us when she has a volunteer schedule
to fill.
Website
Leelee and John will talk further about this before sharing with the rest
of the committee.
Clynk Account
Leelee has bags and tags, but did not have them with her. Will distribute
to members at some point.
New Metrobus Routes (FYI)
FYI: Husky line launch event at USM @ 11 AM, may involve some Westbrook
stuff. Schedules start 8/26, FREE through the 8/29!
Portland/Westbrook City Councilor Ride
John reviewed, will forward info to list.
Immersion Day
On hold for now, Leelee and Kim still talking. Talking about spring now,
since September is close, and not great weather after that. Maybe having a
mini-immersion day @ Westbrook Together Days! Could be an official event on
the official schedule.
Structure and Incorporation
Discussion of desirability of 501(c)3 status, which would require a lot of
work (board formation, bylaws)
Scheduling
Should we move the meeting further back into the evening? No decision, but
some discussion.
Continuing Business:
Intersection recommendations (Hannaford/WCD; Riverbank Park/Blazes
Burgers)? (20 min.)
Do we have consensus on advocating for a specific solution, especially at
Hannaford/WCD?
Ann proposes legislation to allow the DOT to make the exception. She feels
that this would be required.
Agreement that we should research this. John will reach out to Patrick
Adams.
Kids Safety Day
Need to get volunteer list together, work to get volunteer list finalized
by Wed 9/12. John will provide canopy. BYOC (chairs). Dennis will bring
cooler, and check on tables from the American Legion hall. Leelee will
bring bottled water. Leelee and Kim to look for bling. John will ask
Patrick Adams (DOT) about snap bracelets and reflective stickers.
Should schedule additional planning meeting for those involved, perhaps Wed
9/5.
