obstacles at the edge, or because you don't have the vantage and visibility
around blind corners, or because peripheral vision gets worse as motorists
go faster or are more distracted, or because it puts you in conflict with
turning traffic at intersections. (Guess what: Bike lanes are not immune
from some of these problems either!) It's counter to common sense, but
riding further into the travel lane, of course in a straight line and
taking care to make yourself visible at night, can actually be much safer
because you make yourself more relevant and less likely to be overlooked.
