Towards the bottom  of this email from the Bicycle Coalition, they mention
the latest winners of their BikeMaine Community Grants. This is the one
we've applied for twice now but have yet to receive, so this can give us
more of an idea of what ideas fare successfully with them.

2019 BikeMaine Economic Impact Statement
BikeMaine strives to have a positive economic impact on our host
communities, businesses, and community organizations-through riders, family
members, and volunteers-along with the continuing benefits from increased
community visibility. We are very happy to announce our estimated impact
for BikeMaine 2019: Coastal Connections.

This year's total economic impact: $906,227
including food, facility rentals, meals, law enforcement, community
relations, entertainment, and $7,000 to the Katahdin Middle-High School for
their continued excellence as our Tent and Porter crew.

Of that total, our riders contributed over $677,239 in lodging, food,
shopping, recreation and transportation. We received over 230 responses
from riders on our post-ride survey, which helped us calculate this number
with a great deal of confidence.

This total impact represents a growth of over 20% over the total impact of
the 2018 ride, and brings the cumulative, eight year impact of BikeMaine to
over $4 Million!

Thank you to everyone involved for your help, support, and enthusiasm.
BikeMaine couldn't happen without the volunteer support of countless people
in each host community, and being able to give back to the region in the
form of economic development is foundational to the event's mission.
2019 BikeMaine Community Grant Recipients!
Along with our direct economic impact in the form of spending during the
ride, the Community Grant program continues to be a key piece of
BikeMaine's impact, serving as a guiding principle in our mission of
economic development across the state. Communities become eligible to apply
for the grant program after hosting BikeMaine.

We had 15 grant applications this year, for a wide range of bicycle and
pedestrian related infrastructure and education projects all across the
state. From this impressive pool of applicants, we are happy to announce
these winners:

The Town of Fort Kent (2018 host community) was awarded $3,750, and will
use the funds for the installation of two flashing pedestrian crosswalk
lights, which enhance the connectivity of the Fish River Greenway multi-use
path.

The Town of Pittsfield (2017 host community) received $2,500 to install
five bike racks throughout the town as part of a larger effort to promote
new bicycle events and usage by residents.

The Washington County Council of Governments (2016 region) is receiving
$5,000 to install signage for the 350-mile Bold Coast Scenic Bikeway, the
first fully signed scenic bikeway in Maine.

Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust (2017 host community) will use the $3,750
award to help improve a section of the Hatchery Brook trail, making it
suitable for mountain biking.

It is an honor to fund such a diverse range of projects the address both
bicycle and pedestrian issues around Maine. Congratulations to the 2019
winners, and we are excited for another round of funding in 2020, with more
eligible communities than ever before!
