Good Morning,
The forwarded message is from Eric Dudley, Westbrook City Engineer.
Carson Wood, who gave an articulate and compassionate speech at the Public
Forum on Safety in April at the WMS Cafeteria, asked if I could inquire on the
operational condition of the Audible Tone for the SE side Crosswalk at WCD and
Mechanic Street. Apparently, that particular location has experienced
problems. That may - or may not - explain why there are so many people that
risk crossing WCD at Central Street, where there is no Marked or signal
controlled Crosswalk at all. Sunday afternoon, I watched a teenage boy cross
WCD at Central Street and later return the same way, while dribbling a full
sized Basketball.
Understand that WCD traffic on a Sunday afternoon is trivial compared to a
workday mid week afternoon. But, I also noticed that some vehicles were moving
right along, maybe faster than 35mph ?
For WSMAC members who may not know, Carson has resided in Westbrook since 1979.
He has slowly lost vision in both eyes and relies much on the audible tones for
crossing WCD and Main Street in a safe manner, together with safety programs he
has participated in.

We had it fixed 6 weeks ago along with 4 others but that one is non-operational
again.

Hello Eric,
I received communications from Carson Wood, asking about the operating status
of the SE Side Audible Signal Tone for the WCD / Mechanic Street Crosswalk. He
said he had not crossed WCD for a couple Months due to the Audible Tone not
working. He asked if I could inquire about that.
Thank You !
