After I sent the first message, I noticed that the same sign was posted on
the panel in front of the bus’ side exit, for passengers disembarking
there.

Finally, there was also this PSA along the top ad area.

Carson: The first photo I sent was a bright reflective sign inside the bus
that said "Do not cross in front of bus", with a graphic of a pedestrian
crossing in front and coming into conflict with a car passing the bus. This
ad I just mentioned is a reminder from the DOT's "Head's Up" pedestrian
safety campaign that says "Be alert, look & listen. Use your eyes and ears
to watch and listen for vehicles, bicycles, and other pedestrians." It
shows a picture of a young girl and has the phrases "Be Seen! Be Safe!" in
red along the top of the graphic.

This is especially critical in view of the shorter hours of Daylight.

I have also witnessed METRO Bus Passengers being dropped off at the
Haskell Street METRO Bus Stop and the Cornelia Warren Drive METRO Bus Stop,
both on Main Street near the Cumberland Mills Area. Both  METRO Bus Stops
are at marked and Signed Pedestrian Crosswalks.

In both cases that I happened to witness by being first in line in the
traffic, Metro Bus Passengers had to patiently wait ( this was in late
afternoon commuter Traffic ), as drivers on both sides of Main Street,
either did not notice the Metro Bus Passengers, now Pedestrians, trying to
safely cross Main Street OR simply were ignoring them.... I think the rather
small blue Metro bus stop sign needs to be replaced with more visible
larger signs at some or all of the more busy METRO Bus Stops that also are
next to a marked Pedestrian Crosswalk .

This is an issue that needs to be coordinated with Westbrook Public
Services and the METRO Bus Officials.

Subject: [wsmac] Crossing in front of Metro busses

From time to time, the topic of pedestrians crossing in front of busses
after they disembark comes up in our WSMAC discussions. I’m taking the bus
to work on this rainy day (with bike on front rack), and noticed this
helpful sign in at front of the bus, which I hadn’t seen before (though I
don’t take the bus regularly). Good for Metro.
