Tuesday late afternoon, driving W on Main Street, near the Medeo European
Store, a small 4 Door Dark grey or faded black car, Toyota ?,, probably 1970s,
1980s vintage, with maybe 3 - 4 young men, was going E, and was stopped, with
the Right Headlight on, the Left one out, the Right parking light was on, the
Left one out. I was first in line after a group of cars had gone ahead of me. I
soon figured out the driver wanted to turn LEFT, into a narrow driveway, just
past The Medeo European Store, but his Left Front Parking And Directional
Lights were both OUT. I stopped, flashed my own lights and hit my Horn. Believe
it or not, a passenger in the front passenger seat waved, as the driver turned
Left.
Now, if the driver would have been me, in my 2015 Ford F - 150 P/ U, I would
have soon seen Blue Flashing Lights come up behind me.
I did not memorize the Maine License plate, Sorry, my attention was on The
Traffic behind me, vehicles parked at the curb on my Right and vehicles stopped
behind the East bound Car with an inoperative Headlight and inoperative front
Left parking and Directional Lights, waiting for that driver to commit himself
Yesterday, While stopped at Moran's Store in Riverton for lunch outside at a
shaded picnic table, an acquaintance asked if they could have lunch with me.I
warmly agreed and they soon returned from Moran's with a lunch. One of our
primary conversation topics was the sometimes " Scary experiences " crossing
Main Street at the T intersection with the new Bridge Street and at Main and
Stroudwater Streets.
This person survived a Horrible Crash, when a Driver came thru the Wall at Rite
Aid several years ago and hit her in her Cash Register Position, sending Her
and all manner of stuff, bricks FLYING THRU THE AIR. Talking with someone who
has experienced and survived such an unexpected catastrophe is certainly
different from watching a Video or a Movie with actors and carefully planned
segments.
Why are so many cars on the road with inoperative Lights, Directionals, rusted
out fenders ? I can understand maybe on a quiet Island, but not on a busy Main
Street like Westbrook.
