Hello, this was around 12:20pm today, while I was stopped in the Left Turn
Lane at Spring and Main Street, facing North.
The Grandfather showed the girl where to push the Button, and then pointed
across Main Street to the orange hand, next to the Peoples United Bank.
When the White Walking Figure appeared, he pointed again, then hand in
hand, when everyone was stopped, they started walking across. EDUCATION AT
WORK !
Tuesday while helping set up at Walker Memorial Library for Christmas Open
House, I decided at lunch, to walk to the P.O. to mail two checks for
bills. I have a bright blue North Face Parka. On the Big Apple side of
Spring and Main, I pushed the Walk button, then waited a short time . Snow
was coming down pretty good. When the White Walking Figure appeared,
I noticed an East bound car on Main Street, signalling to turn L into the
P.O. entrance, while waiting for traffic coming west on Main Street. Behind
that car was a Pickup Truck with a Snowplow. When I saw the White Walking
Figure appear across from me, I looked R then L, and took 1 Step, when the
PU Truck pulled out to his Right and went passed the stopped car on the
Right, exactly where I would have been IF I had kept walking. I made it
across ok and came back to the Library using the crosswalk again with no
problems. Impatient drivers can lead to disaster if a pedestrian is not
alert. Or my spontaneous decision to walk to the P.O. instead of driving
over may have also contributed.
