*Upcoming movies and TV shows on HBO Max and HBO: *
- *Note: *To promote HBO Max, the Warners movie studio recently
announced that *Wonder Woman 1984 *and 17 other movies it is releasing
in cinemas in 2021 will be available at the same time for home streaming
via HBO Max at no additional cost for one month. (*Wonder Woman 1984* is
no longer available to stream; I found it rather disappointing anyway.)
- *The Little Things *is the first of the new 2021 theatrical releases
from Warners that will be streaming for just one month on HBO Max, starting
Jan. 29; it’s a crime thriller starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and
Jared Leto
- *Irresistible *is a political comedy written by Jon Stewart and
starring Steve Carrell and Rose Byrne, on Feb. 6
- *Judas and the Black Messiah *premieres Feb. 12, available for

Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield. It centers on the true story of Black
Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and FBI informant William O’Neal.
- *Tom & Jerry *is a combined live-action and animation family film
premiering Feb. 26 and available for streaming for one month.
- *Note: *For many years HBO would premiere newly available recent
movies on almost all Saturday nights. That appears to no longer be its
practice. Instead, on upcoming Saturday nights HBO is offering older movies
including: *The Mummy (1999), The Book of Eli, Argo, Bill & Ted’s
Excellent Adventure, **Rocky *and *Beverly Hills Cop. *There is a long
list of other recent and older movies added to HBO Max this month; see
links below.
- The always watchable *Last Week Tonight with John Oliver *returns on
HBO on Feb 14 (available for streaming on HBO Max)
- *It’s a Sin *is a five-episode British miniseries set in London from
1981 to 1991, exploring the AIDS crisis, with a large ensemble cast
including Neal Patrick Harris and Stephen Fry, with all episodes available
to stream on HBO Max on Feb. 18
- *The Head *is a six-episode mystery thriller series about murders at
a South Pole research station, available for streaming on Feb. 4
- HBO and HBO Max are offering several new documentary series this
month, including *The Lady and the Dale *and *Fake Famous, *as well as
a Scandinavian true crime docudrama limited series *The Investigation*
- *Recommendation: Locked Down *was added to HBO Max with little
notice in January. It was filmed during the pandemic in London with stars
Anne Hathaway, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ben Stiller, Ben Kingsley and Mindy
Kaling. It’s a mostly entertaining comedy-drama about an unhappy couple who
decide to steal a diamond from a vault at Harrod’s department store. Having
been to Harrod’s many times, it was fun to see its famed food halls
deserted for a change.
- *Coming Soon: **Godzilla vs. Kong *(March 26) is the next big
Warners film available on HBO Max for a month.
