Fellow Members, just checking if there’s any interest in talk-through trunking
to connect the Darent/ Sevenoaks area with the Medway /Tunbridge Wells area as
Dave YOU and myself did a few weeks ago (email further below explains).

Keith’s prepared to set up a local stand-alone 70 cms access as you can see
below, but doesn’t want to do the trunk.

If there’s no other interest in the trunk, then I’ll give it a miss, plenty to
do without giving myself unwanted work too!

Hello Mark, no all clear, but is their a means to avoid using two 2m
frequencies?

For tonight I'll go with 70cm input for anyone (Neil M6DWU) needing it, and
I'll send out on 2m .375MHz and go vicky verky - I hope, as you hear me and
can relay onto your local 70cm frequency we will have coverage, providing Joe
can reach you on 70cm.

Forget CTCSS, scanners resolve this easily so it isn't effective, your code
is discoverable for those determined. Even a strong local carrier will block
the input so weaker stations can be locked out. If this happens the line is
to ignore and not acknowledge it, even if it means closing early.

Hi Keith,

I think we need a tandemed talk-through link (trunk) between Darent Valle,
G8PHM and Medway Valley, G4JED, and then local access at each end, because

Without this, then Joe will not be able to hear Neil, and Neil will not be able
to hear Joe.

I’d suggest:

G4JED, Medway: 2 metres 145.375 70 cms. 433.400;

G8PHM, Darent: 2 metres 145.4125 70 cms. 433.400;

I’d suggest using CTCSS on both RX and TX for the 70 cms, since I had someone
deliberately disrupting my talkthrough on Sunday morning on the Darent stat
Valley net (yes, people really do this stuff!).

-------------------
How it works:
——-------------
Medway stations listen to Medway stations on 433.400 or 145.375

Medway stations listen to Darent stations on 145.375

Medway stations always transmit on 145.375

Darent stations listen to Darent stations on 433.400 or 145.4125

Darent stations listen to Medway stations on 145.4125

Darent stations always transmit on 145.4125

Darent talk through operates 145.4125 to 433.400

Medway talk through operates 145.375 to 433.400

A worked example:
================

For receive, both Joe and Neil ought to monitor the 70cms trunk as well as the
2m link for receive, but everyone should transmit on their selected 2m
frequency.

The result is like this:

2E0VKH transmits on 145.375

G1YLB receives 2E0VKH on 433.400 (from Medway) or 145.375 (direct)

G4JED [talk through] receives 2E0VKH on 145.375 (direct) and re-transmits on
433.400

G4JED [personal] receives 2E0VKH on 433.400 (from Medway) using a handy

Neil M6DWU receives 2E0VKH on 433.400 (from Medway) using a handy

G8PHM [ talk through ] receives 2E0VKH on 433.400 (from Medway) and
re-transmits on 145.4125

G8PHM [ personal ] receives 2E0VKH on 145.4125 (from Darent) using a handy

Joe receives 2E0VKH on 145.4125 (from Darent) using a handy

———

Joe replies on 145.4125 using a handy

G8PHM [ talk-through ] receives Joe on 145.4125 (direct) and re-transmits on
433.400

G8PHM [ personal ] receives Joe on 433.400 (from Darent) using a handy

G4JED [ talk through ] receives Joe on 433.400 (from Darent) and re-transmits
on 145.375

G4JED [ personal ] receives Joe on 145.375 (from Medway) using a handy

2E0VKH receives Joe on 145.375 (from Medway) or 433.400 (from Darent)

G1YLB receives Joe on 145.375 (from Medway) or 433.400 (from Darent)

Neil M6DWU receives Joe on 433.400 (from Medway) using a handy

If this isn’t clear, we can talk about it by phone. I’ve explain this several
times, but I’m not sure anyone else has understood how it works yet!

Probably needs a picture

Hello Mark, what 70cm frequency do you propose to use, as I may setup my end
similarly so that Neil M6DWU can call in from Leigh with his handheld. I'd
use a separate frequency to you, likely 433.400 or 434MHz without CTCSS etc.

Does Joe know what 70cm frequency he would need to use to get access via you?
