Heading north at noontime on I-94 at about highway marker 50, just before the Oakdale exit, there were two whooping cranes just off the road to the right. Viewed at 65 miles per hour from a distance of less than 200 feet along an irrigation ditch. This is just before the the I-90 split to LaCrosse. Traveling from Milwaukee I had seen deer, sandhills, turkeys and many nesting Canada Geese. Yesterday I saw two Peregrines. I was marvelling at what an amazing success story this all was. Then this topped the cake. Thanks to all that have helped reestablish this species.
