The forecast for Sunday looks like northwest winds and moderate temps, and there will be a raptor watch at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve that day. If you decide to go, walk to the northeast corner of the preserve (a large map will be attached to a vehicle parked near the former clubhouse), where you will find at least a few people engaged in counting any raptors that pass overhead. To get to FBMP, exit at the northernmost Port Washington exit (exit 100) on Hwy I-43, turn southeast onto WI Hwy 32. Turn north (left) at the next intersection onto County LL. Take Hwy LL north about 3.4 miles, then go east on Hwy P all the way to its end (about 1.5 miles), turn left at the end of eastbound P, and go north about one block to the former Squires golf course clubhouse and parking area. Look for the map of the property there, and walk about .4 mile northeast to the watch site. A raptor watch tower/platform is under construction. I can't say if it will be finished by this weekend - but it might be. I expect some people wil be there from mid-morning through at least early afternoon. Winds may change to the northeast in the afternoon, which will diminish the potential for a raptor flight. Late morning will probably be the best time that day, if weather is as forecast. William P.
