Those fuzzy, skinny n-s lines slightly inland from the lakeshore are due to air density changes affecting the radar beam return that one sometimes sees when a lake breeze develops. After today's cold front came through a cool NE wind increased into the afternoon, but it remained very warm inland. There were still many dragonflies along the lakeshore today- note the big fuzzy splotches on the same detection- and as we see every year there were hundreds of gulls chasing and hawking them- a strange sight. Here's what Betsy is referring to- http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/radar/displayRad.php?icao=KMKX&prod=bref1&bkgr=black&endDate=20100822&endTime=1&duration=0 John I, Mke ----- Original Message ----- From: Betsyacorn@xxxxxxx To: wisbirdn@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, August 21, 2010 7:32:39 PM Subject: [wisb] question about radar now Just checked nexrad, and there's a skinny N/S line moving linearly westward showing up on radar. Is this a dragonfly movement??? Or??? Please chime in as you are able.
