While doing an NABA butterfly count in Trempealeau County on Wednesday,
July 8, I ran into Julie McCormick who said that she had just seen a
Yellow-breasted Chat. I had never seen one in Wisconsin so I tried for
it on the morning of July 9 with no luck, but on Friday morning, July 10
I did see it right above the road where I parked and then across the
wetland in the tamarack swamp (Tamarack Creek Wildlife Area). I heard it
singing from the top of a snag and watched it fly to the top of another
tree and sing again. The location is approximately 2.1 miles southeast
of Hwy 93 on County F. As a bonus, there is also a singing Bell's Vireo.
