This afternoon at about 3:23 P.M. I saw a non-breeding plumage White-faced
Ibis at the "Ibis?" "Stilt?" pond south of STH49 in the cattail stubble west
of the historical marker. It was quite far back and sometimes got lost in
the stubble, so it was not as enjoyable as watching the Eldorado Marsh bird
yesterday. This bird had plumage that appeared to be the same as the
Eldorado bird. I don't know if the Eldorado ibis is still present, but if
not, I guess it is conceivable that this is the same bird.
There was no sign of the American Avocets, but in their place were 3 (FOY)
Black-bellied Plovers. Also seen was a Semipalmated Plover, at least 8
Black-necked Stilts, a Least Sandpiper, a Yellow-headed Blackbird, and 2
Common Gallinules.
It takes time and patience to see the birds here because even though the
stubble is low, it still conceals a lot of birds. I believe there is a lot
more out there than what I am seeing.
