A White-faced Ibis was first seen yesterday afternoon at the
Schwarzwald Pond in Manitowoc County. Several birders were able to see
the bird and take photos. The bird was again seen about 6:30 this
morning with photos again taken. I arrived at the pond about 11 this
morning and, after a long search, could not find it. After coming home
for lunch, I tried a second time. This time with success. It was
nearly impossible to miss as it actively fed in the open water of the
pond not far from the road. This was at 1:30 PM. I would think the
bird will stay around at least the remainder of the day. The
Schwarzwald Pond is located on the north side of the intersection of
County Line Road and and Schwarzwald Road. The pond is on the east
side of Schwarzwald Road. This intersection is about 1.5 miles west of
State Highway 42 and County Line Road. If accepted, this would be the
second record for Manitowoc County.
