Hi,
Yesterday (July 14th) at 11am, I observed a Whimbrel calling and
flying south along Lake Michigan east of Cedar Grove. I didn't realize
its rarity until putting it on eBird later in the day.
My wife Rachel and I just moved to the area last month from Coastal
Oregon (living in the Port Washington area for now) and are hoping to
get out birding more. I was wondering about any communication methods
for rare birds besides this listserv and various Facebook Groups. In
Oregon, we had recently set up WhatsApp texting groups for various
counties/areas expressly for the purpose of rare bird alerts and
communication in the field during searches. There is some discussion

I'm not sure how rare bird reporting is handled in WI, or if there is
any interest in WhatsApp or Signal, but I'm retired now so if there is
interest, I'm happy to help try to get it set up.
