Here are a few updates for people who might want to sneak out and still see some of the special resident birds of the S. Kettle Moraine in Waukesha Co: Prairie Warbler-status unknown, last seen at Scuppernong Ski/Hiking trails (but not heard) by Jenny Wenzel on July 16th. Red-necked Grebes-still present at Beaver Dam Marsh on Hwy CI in western part of county Blue-headed Vireos-still present singing in small numbers throughout forest, especially Scuppernong Ski/Hiking Trails Hooded Warblers-present in large numbers throughout the forested areas. Vocalizations are dominated by alternate song types & lots of call notes. This species will remain through at least mid-Sept. Black-throated Green Warblers-again, present singing in small numbers throughout the forest Acadian Flycatchers-present in large numbers throughout the forest. This is another species that will be around until Sept. Cerulean Warblers-if present, they are rarely heard anymore. However, I have heard one male at the Ottawa Lake Campground on Hwy ZZ over the past couple of days. Happy birding!
