Hello, With about a week of unseasonably warm weather and southerly winds, it appears that we are in for a much anticipated change in conditions over the next number of days. The flight has been stagnant to say the least although the numbers of Horned Grebes have increased sharply in the last week. Many of these are staging now in the area and are quite vocal while sitting on the water in groups of a few individuals up to 30 or more. Overall, more than 120 species of migrants have been recorded at the site this fall totaling about 33 thousand individuals. Cormorants are still well into the lead with close to 20 thousand counted as well as close to 7 thousand Canada Geese. Land birds continue to move in some numbers along the lake shore although as might be expected, there is a definite turn over in the number and diversity of warblers replaced by a few common species. Twenty-two warbler species have been recorded with Orange-crowned added in the last couple of days.
