The first program will be on Mar 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center Bird Club meeting. Local birding enthusiast and photographer, Mike Wanger, will present "Birds of Chile (or How to satisfy your Addiction on a Family Vacation)". In January, Mike visited his brother in Chile and was able to identify and photograph over 70 bird species without a local guide. He'll share his pre-trip research methods, provide a window into the local Chilean culture--its people, environment and adaptations--and show that it is possible to satisfy a birding addiction without one's siblings calling for an intervention. And, of course, he'll show you some beautiful birds. Free Then on Mar 23 from 2:00-3:00 p.m, Stan Temple, professor emeritus at the Univ of Wisconsin, Madison, in Conservation and a Senior Fellow at the Aldo Leopold Foundation will present "Environmental Voices: Aldo Leopold, Phenology and Climate Change". Throughout his life Leopold kept daily journals recording observations of seasonal events on the farm where he lived. These observations provided us with a record of when plants bloomed, birds migrated and other natural events occurred. Comparing his records with more recent data helps us understand how climate change is affecting the ecological community. Call 353-2880 ext 0 to register; fee $7:00 nom-SANC member, $5:00 member.
