The first program will be on Mar 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Schlitz Audubon
Nature Center Bird Club meeting. Local birding enthusiast and photographer,
Mike Wanger, will present "Birds of Chile (or How to satisfy your Addiction
on a Family Vacation)". In January, Mike visited his brother in Chile and
was able to identify and photograph over 70 bird species without a local
guide. He'll share his pre-trip research methods, provide a window into the
local Chilean culture--its people, environment and adaptations--and show
that it is possible to satisfy a birding addiction without one's siblings
calling for an intervention. And, of course, he'll show you some beautiful
birds. Free

Then on Mar 23 from 2:00-3:00 p.m, Stan Temple, professor emeritus at the
Univ of Wisconsin, Madison, in Conservation and a Senior Fellow at the Aldo
Leopold Foundation will present "Environmental Voices: Aldo Leopold,
Phenology and Climate Change". Throughout his life Leopold kept daily
journals recording observations of seasonal events on the farm where he
lived. These observations provided us with a record of when plants bloomed,
birds migrated and other natural events occurred. Comparing his records
with more recent data helps us understand how climate change is affecting
the ecological community.
