That is sad about the cygnets. I hope the remaining owns live a long life. I
once heard a robin sounding sad, after a crow had eaten the babies from her
nest in our backyard. She just sat nearby peeping sadly. The robins never
nested in that spot again, but they did nest again.

yesterday on Rainbow Pond I was able to hear a repetitive Trumpeter Swan
single-toned sound that seemed very sad and that I had never heard before.
Following through further with anthropomorphism, I grabbed my spotting scope
and sadly was able to see only two cygnets remaining of the original four. I
realize that this is the result of the normal forces of nature and predation,
though it still nevertheless is difficult to witness.
Long live the remaining two cygnets and parents, both of whom are staying with
their young. I believe the parents molt in succession which leaves the pen
flightless at the time.
