Around 11:00 I got a call from Tom Prestby, who was at the Glossy Ibis spot
along the Mascoutin Trail. He was there with Cynthia Bridge, and they were
reporting that they were currently looking at a White-faced Ibis there! I
happened to be in Ripon at the time, so I decided to head right up to the site.
I arrived and saw Tom and Cynthia ahead down the trail, but I stopped to look
at the ibis with my scope before I got to them â?? and then also looked from
their vantage point. Although superficially similar to the Glossy Ibis I had
seen here last week, this bird was more red on the face, and the facial fringe
was whiter. The legs, although a duller shade of pink as they would be on a
fully mature adult, were definitely pinker than the legs of the ibis I had seen
here last week (which were a sort of grayish brown).

Cynthia also agreed that this bird was different from the bird she had seen and
photographed here several days ago, and she said that she had taken photos and
video of this bird too, and Iâ??m sure she will post them later when she gets a
chance. Iâ??m certain that Tom Prestby will also post comments.

So, the bottom line is... if you go out to this site, donâ??t assume that an
ibis that you see is a Glossy! Take your time and look carefully for the
fieldmarks â?? and hopefully youâ??ll be able to discern which species you
have. The best of all worlds would be that BOTH species would be there
side-by-side at the same time, so you can make comparisons!

Also present were Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Spotted Sandpipers, and a
Lesser Yellowlegs (and of course, Killdeer) â?? as well as Forsterâ??s and
Black Terns, and a decent variety of ducks.
