I tried to beat the heavy rain and storms by checking out the Jersey Pond, and then the Columbia/Dane ponds early this morning. There were about 100 Bonaparte's Gulls at the Jersey Pond, along with some ducks and a few geese. Harvey/60 Pond had 6 White-fronted and 4 Cackling Geese. Harvey/DM Pond had 4 Least Sandpipers, plus snipe, Pectorals and various ducks. The DM/I Pond had 20 Pectoral Sandpipers, Lesser Yellowlegs and snipe. A Greater Yellowlegs was at the WIBU/DM pond, along with 4 Tundra Swans. The Ashton/K Pond had 6 shorebird species that included 1 Baird's Sandpiper, that eventually took a bath, fairly close to the road. Also here were 4 Ross's and 1 Snow (Blue) Goose, plus a nice variety of ducks. At Indian Lake Park, among the numerous Tree Swallows were single Barn and Rough-winged. The heavy storms and rain hit around Beaver Dam on the way home. As it had lessened a little when I got to Waupun, I decided to check out Horicon Marsh along 49. On the west end a large white bird came out over the road and then flew back to the south---an adult Whooping Crane! A pair of Trumpeter Swans were on the last pond on the Auto Tour loop. A surprising 91 species were seen. Daryl Tessen Appleton,, WI #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
