Last night my husband was emptying the bird-bath water out of the heated container and he heard this owl but did not know what it was - we often hear Great-horned Owls here. I have only heard a Saw-whet on bird call cd's and this was certainly one quite close outside - great thrill! I finally have Redpolls mixed in with the many Pine Siskins (about 22) at our feeders but I was lamenting the lack of birds since we returned from our month in Texas and today I think I know why. A doggone feral cat was under the nearest Spruce tree and that was after we had lots of little finches outside with the usual suspects.
