All,
After reading Dave and Margaret Brasser’s report yesterday I changed my
plans this morning and headed over to a flooded field on CTH J in Sheboygan
County, just north of the Marsh. Besides the Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs,
Pectoral and Least Sandpipers and Wilson’s Snipes they observed, I was
fortunate enough to witness several Stilt and Baird’s Sandpipers, and a pair of
Long-Billed Dowitchers. Their ridiculously long, decurved bills were easily
compared to the nearby Snipes, along with overall chunkier body and lighter
coloration, and were a pleasant surprise!
Because my first visit was before 0730, I went back after noon when the pond
wouldn’t be so be backlit. The STSAs and LBDOs had moved on but the Baird’s
were still there in number, as were the Pectorals and Yellowlegs.
Margaret and Dave, thanks for the heads up!
