Good morning, all
I live for the fall days when I can watch sanderlings race the waves in and
out and I got that chance this morning by the south beach at Kohler-Andrae SP.
A small group of five were running back and forth calling about 30’ ahead of me
so I just froze and took as many pictures as I could; suddenly I heard a few
loud peeps much closer than the birds I was watching and I slowly lowered my
camera to see one about three feet from me, calling and feeding, running all
around me. It’s hard to describe the feeling but I’m sure most of you know what
I’m talking about; pure, unadulterated delight!
Those were the only sanderlings I saw at KASP and Harrington Beach, but they
were enough.
On a side note, I probably noted five times as many monarch butterflies
today as birds; quite literally everywhere!
