Personally I don't think you need a guide...but that is ultimately up to you.Â
We went last year in February 2020 before lock down.  We did not do any hard
core birding in Hawaii. All these were birds we more or less stmbled upon in
our travels. We did however travel to Kilauea Point National Wildlife
Refuge/Lighthouse on the North Shore of Kauai where we saw the most exotic
birds, without that trip we would not have seen four species. My favorite site
to identify these birds was:Â Â

Here is the List of Lifers:
Chestnut MuniaWhite-rumped ShamaYellow-fronted Canary
Japanese White-eye
Saffaron Finch
Red-crowned Cardinal or Brazilian Cardinal
Apapane Hawaiian Honey Creeper
Wandering Tattler
Yellow Billed Cardinal
Pacific Golden Plover
Hawaiian Gallinule
Zebra Dove
Common Myna
Common Waxbill(4-Birds from Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and
Lighthouse on the North Shore)

Here are some links I found. Ask your resort for someone local if you can't
find info otherwise.

In April my wife and I plan to go to Hawaii, spending most or all of our time
in Kauai. Iâd like to hire a guide for a day or two. Does anyone know of
a guide for this island?Â
Lastly, does anyone know of any pelagic trips on this or any of the islands?
Thanks in advance
