I photographed a bird that I thought looked 'different' a couple
mornings ago, after seeing it through my bins and wondering what it
was. I didn't get great pix of it, as it was quite far from me, but a
couple that should help ID it properly.
I sent the pix to Peter Fissel first, because I didn't want to get
overly excited about it in case I was way off. But after Peter and a
couple others he sent the pix to have seen it, they're fairly
confident that it is a Red Crossbill.
We're thinking it's a female, and she doesn't look to be in great
shape as you will see by my images.
This bird was perched in a tree on our property, on the other side of
the creek that runs through our backyard. It's certainly the first
time I've ever seen a Crossbill (yes, I've got a much shorter life
list than many) and I'm pretty excited about it.

Any input is welcome! This would bring our yard list to 87 species in
just over four months.
